Representatives of the University of Louisville International Pediatric Program visit Perm November 9-15.
Four doctors from Louisville visited Perm as part of the professional exchange program between the two sister-cities. Perm Health Care Department arranged for the group to spend their time observing Perm children's hospitals and lecturing both for doctors and students.
According to Louisville doctors the trip was a good introduction to the Russian medical system and the methods Perm doctors use. At the meeting with Igor Shubin, the Mayor of Perm, American pediatricians said that though it was an initial assessment visit by the University of Louisville International Pediatric Program both sides agreed to establish long-term relationship with pediatric physicians in Perm which would be mutually beneficial. Now both Perm and Louisville doctors will have to identify specific areas of cooperation for the next three years.
It is worth mentioning that prior to the visit of American doctors two Perm neonatologists - Dr.Zuev and Dr.Bezmaternykh - visited Louisville and spent two weeks there observing Neonatal Intensive Care Units at Kosair Children's Hospital and the University of Louisville Hospital. The trip was very useful and productive and upon return Dr.Zuev and Dr.Bezmaternykh have been adapting the experience they acquired in Louisville to Perm conditions.
